Korbi Carrison: “G2E Will Be Back And Better Than Ever Next Year”

The latest edition of the Global Gaming Expo (G2E), held in October, marked the return of the major industry event to its pre-pandemic attendance levels. Stakeholders gathered in Las Vegas for a week of fully in-person education and networking action, which gathered nearly 25,000 visitors at The Venetian Expo.

The premier gaming event highlighted “the casino gaming industry’s strength and dynamic future,” according to organizer RX. It also implied a return to form for G2E, with attendance nearly doubling G2E 2021’s 13,000. As the industry leaves the pandemic behind, the industry is ready once again to meet in person.

In conversation with Yogonet, Korbi Carrison, Event Vice President G2E, RX USA, reflects on the highlights of 2022’s edition and shares her assessment of how the industry developed over the last 12 months. In addition, Carrison discusses the importance of expos and highlights which issues and verticals are gaining momentum at G2E.What is your assessment of how the gaming sector developed in 2022, and what role did the latest G2E edition play within this context?

The gaming industry has maintained its momentum throughout 2022, continuing on pace for a second consecutive record-setting revenue year. Expansions in legal sports betting and land-based gaming have helped drive this growth, as have innovations in gaming products.

G2E 2022 both highlighted and propelled these innovations, and the show’s attendance of nearly 25,000 gaming community members reaffirmed the industry has not only recovered but is positioned to enter a new era of growth.

This year marked a general return of in-person industry events –and attendance levels– all over the world, and G2E was no exception, drawing its largest crowd since pre-pandemic. What are your main takeaways from this year’s edition?

G2E 2022 was a reminder of how valuable in-person interactions are for getting business done. Attendees were thrilled to be back together in-person, the expo hall was buzzing, and people were making face-to-face connections that will drive the industry and their businesses forward throughout the year.

Industry members left G2E feeling energized about the future of gaming, and much of that was due to the excitement of G2E being fully back to its pre-pandemic atmosphere. What industry issues and new technologies would you say dominated 2022’s G2E? What were attendees and stakeholders most interested in learning?

Sports betting was a central focus for attendees, reporters, and exhibitors. We had several education sessions dedicated to the topic, which were all very well attended. Innovations in digital payments were also a hot topic in the expo hall, and iGaming continues to become a bigger point of conversation each year.

As always, new slot machines and table games debuted on the show floor, previewing the future of the in-person casino experience and remaining the biggest focus of G2E. No matter what topic attendees and stakeholders were most interested in, we certainly offered something for everyone.

What should we expect from next year’s G2E edition? Are there any new plans or announcements you could share with us?

We are already thinking about how we can make G2E 2023 more engaging and essential than this year’s show. While I can’t tease any announcements yet, I can guarantee you G2E will be back and better than ever next year. Stay tuned!
